Bodegas Jose L. Ferrer


In 1931, and he was barely 28 years old, the young and restless José Luis Ferrer Ramonell, having studied engineering in France, founded this winery under the name Vinícola de Binissalem. Later will receive its current name, Bodegas José L. Ferrer and Franja Roja, its flagship brand, which today are synonymous with quality and prestige.

Joseph L. Ferrer, was a pioneer in the island of Majorca when:

  • Introducing new techniques in the cultivation of the vine.
  • Bottling wine for later sale.
  • Ageing wines in oak barrels with the intention of improving the quality and evolution of their wines.
  • He was the creator of great white wines based on native varieties, because there was no tradition in the island, but a great acceptance thanks to the arrival of fresh wines.
  • And then, exporting great Majorcan wines to Europe and USA.

Currently, the winery is still family owned, being in charge the 3rd and 4th generation of the lineage wine-making Ferrer, who have never conformed to what brought them historical memory and experience inherited,  it is for this reason that they have always looked for to enrich the received legacy.

Thus, from the grandfather, Jose Luis Ferrer Ramonell, to grandchildren, Sebastian and Jose Luis Roses, until the recent addition of his great-grandson Pepe, have all gone beyond our borders to detect, and if necessary, apply at home new ideas and winemaking techniques from around the world.

From the time of the founder until today the winery hasn’t lost an ounce of typicality and authenticity in approaches, but has managed to greatly improve the final result. Advanced facilities that combine the best of modern and traditional techniques and, above all, live the passion of wine, almost genetically transmitted from generation to generation, have had as a reward, local market recognition and even beyond our borders.

Centuries of a land of tradition and all the passion and effort from a family, are there after the name of José L. Ferrer. Light and Magic, countryside and country folk, culture and wit, soul and earth, grape and courage made into wine is essentially what is uncorked with each bottle from our cellar.
